Rushmere Country Park, Heath & Reach

Rushmere Country Park is in Heath & Reach, it is about 2 miles off the A5 going towards Milton Keynes and you turn off opposite the Flying Fox Pub. It is signposted from that point and very easy to find. You have to pay £3 to get in but you pay that on exit at the barriers.

There is plenty of parking and it always seems quite full of people. They have a Visitor Centre which is called the Heronry because in the months of January and February right opposite the Centre, Herons nest in the trees opposite. Last year they had 14 nests and lots of chicks too.

So, if your free in February and you want to see what a Young Heron looks like this is the place to go. They also have a Cafe and loads of children's activities, so it is good for all members of the family.

The view from the Decking out towards the Heron's Nesting site is beautiful, you can see right into the bottom of the valley and see a lake which apparently has Kingfishers fishing sometimes and they also had a lot of feeders out and an abundance of birds from Coal Tits, Great Tits and Blue Tits.

They have alot of paths you can follow and the people in the Visitor Centre seemed knowledgeable about where on the site you might be able to see different types of birds and animals. They have also closed off the point in front of the Centre and created a Conservation Area where they hope to encourage all sorts of animals like Foxes and Badgers and install cameras so people can see them if they do eventually appear in the area.

So, if you want a nice morning walk and get some fresh air aswell I would recommend Rushmere.

I will keep you informed about the Herons as I will be going along to see them.
