Meeting the Mink of Marsworth

It was a beautiful sunny day so I thought I would go for a walk at the Reservoir at Marsworth.

Marsworth Reservoir is situated about 3 miles outside Pitstone and has good parking opposite the Red Lion public house just over the bridge on the left hand side.

I parked up and walked up some steps to the small reservoir and then went along the path towards the main reservoir.  There is a pathway between the two so I thought I would walk along and see what I could see. I saw a young man fishing and asked him how he was getting on. He said he was just preparing himself for the night as he was going night fishing.

I then walked along the path towards some reeds and watched loads of carp on top of the water in the shade hiding from everyone including the fisherman. I then saw something swimming along from the reeds to the side of the bank. I watched where it had swam to but saw nothing and then right in front of me I was confronted by something that I have never seen in my life, a Mink, it was a lovely little thing and was soaking wet. Before I had to time to take a picture it had leapt back into the water. Damn. I thought to myself. I have since learnt that it is called the Mink of Marsworth.

I was then told by another member of the public that there was a young Heron along the Canal near the first lock. So, I walked down to the first lock and there in front of me, was a young Heron. He was really cute and I have attached some pictures of him so you can see what he was like.

After a while, he behaved really strangely, he folded his wings up and turned his head around to the right. I have no idea why he did it for and I am going to look it up or I will hopefully find out from somebody else. Just after that a dog came along and scared him off.
