The Clappers at Sharpenhoe

Sharpenhoe Clappers is situated just outside the village of Streatley. It has good car parking facilities and is a nice place to go to walk your dog or see the varied wildlife in the area.

There are two ways of getting to the summit, one is round the pathway to the right alongside the fields and the other is to walk through the woods and up a pathway to the summit. I prefer the walk through the woods because you see lots more wildlife, birds and squirrels.

When I was about 9 years old my dad used to take us and some of the local kids out for the afternoon to the Clappers, after being stuck on an estate all of the time it was nice to get away from it all.

It is a nice walk and when you reach the top, you find yourself in the middle of a wood which covers most of the summit, lots of roots you can fall over but it has a wonderful view of the village of Sharpenhoe, the gardens of the houses leading down to the village and also a delightful view of the surrounding area of Bedfordshire.

According to some local people you can see a Hobby flying around sometimes but there are an awful lot of rabbits around, which is good for birds of prey such as Buzzards which can be seen flying overhead sometimes.
